I could understand partially where the author was coming from because of
my experience with the population of women I worked with at the Health
Department. For some, insistence of the use of cup or tube at breast or
on finger is too way out and would have resulted in them quitting. For
some bottle feeding worked temporarily. Yes, there is risk for nipple or
volume confusion and I let the mom know this. I think this is another
tool to put in our bag of tricks!

Now on the other hand, I had one single Mom on public assistance who had
triplets. This was in the early days of my breastfeeding work. THat is
where I became comfortable with cup feeding as one baby always needed
feeding during my visits. Cup feeding saved this mother who was able to
cup feed, or bottle feed, or breastfeed each of them while still
pumping and caring for her 4 other children!
