I've been reading the hospital LC's and RN's post as to how difficult it
is in the hospital to get enough time 1-on-1 one with new moms and
babies to get them properly breastfeeding. The current epidural,
medicated and c/s births are a huge contributing aspect of this problem.

My first question is what happened to the "natural" childbirth movement?
Forty years ago my mother read Grantly-Reeds book "Childbirth without
Fear" before giving birth to my brother. The "labor" part of labor and
delivery seems to have lost its definition as being real work. Today's
laboring moms are given choices to ask for pain medication, enough to
take the edge off. 26 years ago my OB was mad I insisted on no epidural
due to my getting migraine headaches. I told him to stop bringing the
subject up
every visit as I wan't having any. My husband finally chimed in and
told
the guy I wouldn't be needing it. My husband proved to be right.

Is there any possibility of lactation support in a group setting at the
hospitals? I really wonder if group support at set hour(s) each day
would make a difference? If moms could see other beginning moms and
hear the advice from someone making "rounds" perhaps shared instruction
would be heard differently.

I base this on the fact that many breastfeeding new moms have never
seen any other woman breastfeed at a time in their lives or at an age
when it would personally interest them.

Just a thought as the group setting has worked well for years with LLL.
