Thank you, Pat and Frank, for the good info on antivirals, as many of us
will be getting calls in the coming months. When a licensed prescriber has
suggested one of these drugs, we can then give the client the info she
needs, including asking her MD or FNP about the possibility of a drug which
may have less of an impact on breastfeeding.

Just a caveat about "prescribing" homeopathics, although we may use them in
our homes, most of us here cannot prescribe ANY drugs for clients. It is no
different than if a mom calls and says "what can I take for high blood
pressure while BF?" or any other medical question. We need to ask her what
her MD suggested and then go from there.

I am always very uncomfortable when I see prescribing suggestions from
those of us who don't have prescribing licences. (If it is for personal use
it bothers me less, but I would not "prescribe" homeopathics for a client
any more than I would try to write a prescription for an RX drug. Even if
*I* am sure the drug is "safe.") We need to be VERY careful how we word
our "suggestions." This carefulness and caution is for OUR protection, as
well as our clients'. We live in a litigious society. Just a fear of mine
when I see "prescribing" suggestions on Lacnet.
