  This sounds like sacrificing on the alter of ignorance.
A chol of 230 is not that high.  It is more important to look at her HDL,
chol ratio, and other risks factors.  How old is the mother?
Also, there is research to show that  BF actually lowers chol.

 Is she on a low chol diet?  A chol this minimally elevated will usually
respond to exercise and diet.
 One med that can lower chol and be taken safely while BF is metamucil.  Its
effects are minimal and it works best on the LDL if I remember correctly.
But it is still worth a try if nothing else works.
Lastly a slightly higher chol would be very unlikely to cause injury in the
short-term.  Certainly it can usually be watched for a few months.   Chris
