The mother of the family with Norovirus should absolutely breastfeed.
She will provide antibodies to Norovirus via the entero-mammary
pathway. This baby will be exposed to Norovirus by the family members,
so any worry re exposure of the virus through breastmilk is ridiculous.
Not nursing puts this baby in serious and unacceptable danger. Have the
doctor prove that Norovirus is a contraindication. The CDC has outlined
clear contraindications to breastfeeding, and norovirus is not a new
virus, and not on the CDC list.
