I haven't posted for a couple of years (although regularly reading and
reaping the benefits of everyone's knowledge and experience!), so I hope I
remembered how to do it correctly . . .
Anyhoo, in our NICU, one of our neonatologists recently told a breastfeeding
mom with mastitis to stop nursing on that breast but to continue to pump and
to throw out the milk. I wrote it up as an incident report and he was
presented with material on mastitis treatment, but he came back with, "How do
I know that's safe for a *premie*?"
He wants research-based documentation specific to premies. Does anyone have
any such references? (I tried the archives but they are "not accepting
inquiries.")
Thanks so much,
Jennifer Herrin, RN, IBCLC, Tulsa, Oklahoma
