Yes, I've seen this as well.  But I do think it's a matter of educating nurses, and new moms/families as well as managing up your staff.  Since all of our staff is educated in breastfeeding I make it a point of discussing how skilled our staff is with breastfeeding in every prenatal class and tour I do.  Once they deliver, as a matter of practice I note which nurses have which patients so when I'm working with a mom I can tell her that her nurse is good with bfing (if indeed they are...) and then follow up with her nurse on what we discussed or worked on.  I try to talk about it as an added value..."they should never have to wait for a LC, we all can help, we work as a team." etc.

I find that seems to really help.  It also gives me a chance to catch our staff doing something good and encourage it!
