Good idea, Rachel, to try pumping opposite side while nursing, to take advantage of let-down from pump.  I've done and recommended this in order to increase pumping volume and overall supply.  I don't see why it wouldn't be helpful in a case where the let-down appears to respond to pump rather than baby.  It would probably cut down on the time mom would have to spend just pumping, too.
