Just had a call from a former Peer Counselor who is expecting baby #5. The
next one up is 11 months old, and the next one is 3yrs old. Both of those are
nursing. The MD is insisting that she wean the baby before her last
trimester, to avoid the risk of premature labor. Due date is in June. All of
the other 4 births were full term. The MD doesn't know that she is also
nursing the 3 yr old. She wanted to know if anyone has ever nursed three at
the same time, and if there might be a problem with milk supply. She has been
lactating continuously for 7 yrs. Does anyone have any words of
advice/wisdom/encouragement? ( She can't dump the OB/GYN -it's the only place
that takes Medicaid OB patients).
Also, the 7 yr old brought home a stomach bug which everyone came down with.
The Ped told her to be sure the babies don't get any MILK products, only clear
liquids. She told him absolutely they would not get any MILK products. She
said she remembered from her Peer Counselor training-that breastmilk is as
good as that oral rehydration stuff. So she pumped breastmilk and gave to the
older 2 in cups and she said they were better over night!
