I wanted to respond to Ann's post about early induction of twins.  No
solutions here, just empathy.  We see babies induced at 36-38 weeks for
various reasons, most of them rather vague but implying to the mother that
leaving a baby alone would be injurious to the baby's health.

I've had to listen to mothers cry when we need to supplement one of these
early young ones who can't stay awake long enough to sustain a feed.
Surprisingly, they rarely blame the doctor.  They often say, "I didn't have
enough."  It doesn't matter how carefully we explain that the extra few
weeks would have made a big difference, and that in time the baby will rally
and be more cooperative at breast.

What am I supposed to say when a mother says, "But my doctor said my baby
would be fine."   It seems inadequate to tell her that her doctor meant her
baby wouldn't have to go to the NICU.   It seems that if we are to promote
breastfeeding, we are going to have to start with childbirth.
