Jeanette: Motrin (ibuprofen) is AAP compatible with breastfeeding. Very
little gets into the breast milk (Dr. Hale's book cites less than 0.6% of
maternal dose, and adds that even large doses produce very small milk
levels). Also, this is a 5-month-old baby, who can more easily
metabolize anything he gets, and unlike a newborn is probably not nursing
8-12 times in 24 hours. So if the mother is still concerned, she can
probably dose her motrin after nursing to even further minimize
exposure. Hope this helps. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
