Hello fellow Lactnetters!!
I have been following the human milk/breast milk thread with
interest. I tend to agree that it is appropriate to call it human milk or
mother's milk. We don't call cow's milk "udder milk"!! However, on
another note, human milk does come from the human breast and we are in many
cases fighting the uphill battle of the sexual obsession with human
breasts. Aren't we trying to also educate people about the very important,
biological function of the human breast in providing nutrition for our
babies. I am wondering if in using the term breastmilk we continue to
normalize the view of breasts!! Perhaps in trying to reach a middle road I
would feel comfortable using each term, perhaps in different circumstances.

Breastmilk is food for thought!!
PS. The German word for breastfeeding is stillen, which has many meanings.
Breastfeeding, quench thirst, satisfy desire, and soothe pain. Pretty
good definition, don't you think??
