Unless a child is milk allergic why would dairy products increase the occurance of otitis?
I found it interesting that Katherine D says moms in areas w/out antibiotics feared ear infections because they could be fatal. How were these ears being diagnosed?
Otitis, especially since it occurs more in 6 to 12 month olds can be hard to accurately dx and is one of the most over dx conditions. Also it is felt that the majority 80+% can self resolve. In some areas of Europe analgesics are first line tx not antibiotics. There is talk maybe we should do this in the US because of increased antibiotic resistance but we dont. Maybe because of another profession who likes to use the court system.
Some advise I can offer on otits beside the well know BREASTFEED and aviod day care is:
see the same physician for tx and follow-up
avoid emergecy rooms, especially in the middle of the night
