<< So it is, as Lucas said very clearly on the radio this morning, and
which is buried in the paper, today's Western diet that doesn't
'match' the healthy start given by bf. It's modern diets that are at
fault, and not bf. >>

Even so, this could easily be turned around to say that since Westerners eat
a processed diet, they should begin life with a food that prepaes them for
such a diet. It is not far-fetched to imagine such an argument. It's like the
one that says we need to keep making cow's milk formula better since it is
what people are going to do. I can imagine something like: "since people are
going to eat a processed diet, we need to make a formula compatable with it
or find the length of bf more compatable with it".
Several years ago, I attended Grand Rounds at the hospital where I
worked. Alan Lucas was the speaker and I was so excited, based upon his IQ
research in preemies. I thought that these HCP's were finally going to hear
about the biological imperative for bf. It didn't happen. They heard alot
about how cow's milk formula is not adequate for preemies as compared to his
special preemie formula, which was also as good as breastmilk (or maybe
better). I was shocked and appalled. I cannot say I am surprised by this new
study at all.
