D-MER is certainly not outside the realm of possibility BUT I am inclined to agree with the sentiment that it might be *normal* to cry when you have to pump for your small, sick baby who is unable to nurse when you SHOULD be either carrying that baby in utero or snuggling him at breast. Sample of one, but I absolutely wanted to cry every time I pumped for my NICU baby. I was the most relaxed and happy when he was at breast. Holding him skin to skin was a close second. Try to work with nursing staff to make that happen for her.
