A recent post asked how old a premie would have to be before a certain drug
would be considered safe and mentioned pump and dump in the meantime.  I'd
like to point out the obvious which sometimes has to smack us a good one
before we realize how obvious it is.  If milk can't be fed to the baby now
but can be later pump and store don't pump and dump.  This includes those
times that we need to research a drug, the babies STILL taken off the
breast for jaundice in some parts of the world, and I'm sure other
examples.  Most of the time pumping and not direct breastfeeding is
probably a mistake.  With a bit more time and/or research we learn (or more
likely we already knew but had to convince those in power) the milk can be
used.  How much better to have it in the refrigerator or freezer than the
sink.  Carla
