So many of the problems that we see with Breast Feeding are the direct result of straying sooooo far from the Biological norm for our species, Homo Sapiens.
Synthetic fibers for blankets and clothes ( which contribute to over heating/SIDS), heavily medicated mother's, GMO/highly processed foods, a complete severing of the mind/body/spirit connection and the resulting emotional numbness, rampant consumption to fill the void that is there because we did not receive enough early love, etc, etc. Although I agree that it is necessary to educate parents on the right and wrong way to co sleep, if we keep getting further and further away from the biological norm, Women will not Breast Feed past the first few weeks, except for a small percentage of people like us Lactnetters. One, because all of these rules are so strict and prohibitive , Q 3 hours for 15 minutes each breast, burp immediatley, put Baby on the back in the crib, if baby does not fall asleep within 5 minutes, shut the door and let him/her cry it out, etc, etc. and Two, because we will have taken the built in pleasure circuits out of it, by blunting the neurohormonal surges for both Mom and Baby. Brave New World we are living in, ey? Glad I am getting older and not younger, Lisa Mooney MSN CNM IBCLC
