Hi All,
So many wonderful things posted here recently. Kathy's letter was so
great, as a woman whose breasts fell sometime in mid teens (never a weight
or size issue) I bristle at the remark that breastfeeding causes breasts to
sag - I usually answer, life causes breasts to sag! For the women and
children out there who suffer because of the decision not to breastfeed, I
shudder when I hear the sagging breast excuse.
I love reading where all of you are from (it helps clarify some points)
and since I am in the military, it is always possible, I've been there or am
going there. As I live in Kentucky right now, it is deceptive as I grew up
in Ohio, have lived from the Mississippi River west in many different places
and states, Germany (West) and right now my heart is in Texas (where my
husband is and I will be bound next spring). So to know that I am next door
to some, have lived where others are or am going where someone is, is
comforting.
I don't put credentials because to be honest, I received a personal e-mail
not to. Will not go into that any further. It matters not to me one way or
the other, but please understand why I can't.
I won't go on my soap box about slow weight gain again other than to say,
I still can not fathom why some HCPs ignore all the other aspects of the
child and his/her health to obsess on one point. My husband and I were
not/are not large people (not even really average) - we are not going to
produce large children. But I agree, American doctors do seem to get caught
up on the weight gaining issue to the exclusion of all else. End of my
personal rant. (OK, I admit it was more than one point).
Finally, I viewed Dharma & Greg twice tonight (taped it for my daughter in
Japan), it was a lovely show. To me, a little over the edge on the getting a
laugh out of the situation. But to see that the point of an adopted baby
receiving human milk, no formula mentioned, to see the involvement of so
many people in supporting this new family (and the need for that support),
and finally the coming together of this new family - in American prime time
situation comedy - is certainly refreshing and a blessing.
