>I have been wondering of late regarding the =
blank recommendation of bfg from one side only each meal, from birth.<

Chole Fisher and Mike Woolridge wrote in the RCM Midwives Journal in Sept
1999, 2(9):278 about one breast per feed 'Finish the first breast first':
"Neither of us wouel ever routinely suggest feeding from only one breast per
feed. But neither would we ever suggest that both breasts must be used at
each feed." They cite Successful Breastfeeding, 2e for management. Their
original paper, which, misinterpreted, casued this whole new practice is:

Woolridge, MW, Fisher, C (1988) Colic, 'overfeeding' and symptoms of lactose
malabsorbtion in the breastfed baby: a possible artitact of feed management.
Lancet ii 382-4.

I think MIke and Chloe would both be very grateful if they never heard of a
blanket recommendation of one breast per feed again.
