It was like finding a haven 27 years ago when there was nothing out there. I too found it accepting,
informative and empowering in a world that was definitely short on people protecting the rights and needs of
infants and their moms. The current version is easily readable and puts out as much info as a new-to-be
mom needs for the basics. It can be picked up and read in parts , one does not have to read it front to back.
Dads are even known to read parts, voluntarily. There are areas, like the parts on how breast milk is a
superior infant food, that moms who are interested in a bit more can read. It carries references for other
readings that people might wish to delve into. It may seem "cutesy" because in its way it is motherly,
something that new moms, no matter how sophisticated, need when they are new moms. I have not heard
of a mom who felt intimidated or made less than by the book, even moms who stopped nursing "early." It
does not set a whole lot of limits or you-have-to-do-this edicts...just suggestions that are gentle and always
have the baby's best interest in mind. ~ Mary Shine LLLL St. Joseph, Michigan
