The hospital in which I work is a part of a very large healthcare system.
One of the committees is looking at systemizing lactation care so that the
same standard of care is provided in each of our hospitals. Currently
there is a wide variation in lactation care.

Will some of you who work in hospitals providing inpatient care let me
know the number of FTEs you have for inpatient care, the number of
deliveries per year, and the breastfeeding rate? We want to see if there
is some standard that evolves.

At my hospital we currently provide 8 hours of IBCLC care 7 days a week
for approximately 2000 deliveries per year with 85% of them breastfeeding
at discharge. This does not include classes, phone calls or outpatient
care; it is purely inpatient rounds.

This question is for inpatient care. The outpatient clinic is a separate
issue.

Thanks to each and every one of you!
