I once had a mom in our Group that was suffering from Lyme's Disease. Her Dr.
was a big name specialist in Michigan and Lyme Disease was his area of
expertise. He did not have a problem with this mother breastfeeding. She did
have problems breastfeeding due to severe thrush that was a constant problem
due to the heavy duty antibiotics that she was on due to the Lymes. She did
just about every thrush treatment without much improvement. (Diflucan,
Nystatin, and Gentian Violet). She finally weaned baby at 8 months due to her
extreme fatigue and thrush. I am surprised that she persevered that long given
her level of pain and also her situation being complicated by a back injury
that she was on meds for and her husband (a firefighter) being absent for long
stretches. However, her specialist was not opposed to her breastfeeding, but
was instrumental in her weaning her daughter due to her extreme fatigue. He
couldn't understand why she continued to breastfeed with her physical
condition, especially after the baby was 6 months old. He really started
actively discouraging her after her daughter was 6 months old and his active
discouragment was a big factor in her weaning!!!
