Rachel Hamlet's question jogged my memory about reading a fascinating
account of Samoan women who have a very hight fat diet and breastfeed but
also have periods very quickly and do NOT trust lactation to provide
protection against another pregnancy.

K Dettwyler may wish to comment. I recall (dimly) that the article I read
was by an anthropologist. I do not recall if the description of
breastfeeding was full, although I seem to remember that no solids were
being given to teh baby.

Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities
brilliantly disguised as impossible situations."
