Internet, websites, newspapers--aargh! It's everywhere. As a Horizon Blue
Cross/Blue Shield health insurance member, I received a newsletter titled
Horizon Healthy Woman. The first page had articles that included suggestions on
prevention as part of health care and smoking cessation programs.
The second full page was on Understanding Gestational Diabetes. The
graphics included a photo of a pregnant woman, a baby rattle and a pacifier. Ugh.
The third page asked Is A Baby on Your Horizon? It listed what you could
expect to receive in services while you are pregnant and after you are
pregnant. This included discounts for prenatal education courses and materials. The
next offering was information about childhood immunizations. Not one word
on breastfeeding. Aargh--another teaching opportunity lost.
I shot off an email to the editor of the newsletter thanking them for the
idea of the newsletter and suggesting to them that they missed a good chance to
educate and support mothers interested in breastfeeding and those who are
seeking information in order to make an informed decision. I asked them to do
their homework on the savings of health care dollars over the lifetime of
this mother and baby. And I sent them to the AAP guidlelines and the WHO
guidelines.
I thanked the editor for the concept of the newsletter and suggested that
they might be highly motivated to do that if the insurer had the information on
the savings of health care dollars for breastfeeding families.
I urge anyone else who received this to write something to

I am on to the letter to Medela as I received my certified letter today
about for my rental pumps. I have a rageathon in me about this. I shouldn't
even get started but I'm already on a roll.
