Add this to the list of ridiculous reasons to wean/not breastfeed!
Lactose intolerance is simply a deficiency of lactase in the intestinal
brush border (the lining of the intestines).  It has no effect on
anything except lactose digestion.  Lactose in mother's milk is all made
from glucose, half of which is made into galactose first, then the 2
sugars are joined, 1 of each per lactose molecule.  Lactase only breaks
the bond between glucose and galactose in lactose, it does not have any
activity in formation of the sugars....  I'd love to know what this
doctor would say if asked for references.
