Phyllis,
This is harassment. Don't stand for it. Let your mgr know what is going on
and go back to the coworkers who are saying this and stop it there. Let me
share with you something that happened to me. What follows is from a letter
I wrote to our DON and said I wanted it in the nurses file. Note, when the
situation below ensued, I immediately stopped the nurse and got our mgr so
we could all talk privately. Lucky for me (and everyone else concerned :) if
you know what I mean) my mgr supported me.
Parts of my letter:
At this time I returned to the nursery where "jane" again confronted me in a
loud and angry tone, and with another nurse present. She said "you're
pushing breastfeeding" on the patients "just so you can keep your job." I
left the nursery and went directly to my supervisor, asking her to meet with
"jane" and myself at this time.

During the ensuing lengthy discussion, "jane" attacked my personal
character, professional integrity, and motives, again stating that I only
wanted to keep my job and was deliberately causing harm (jaundice and
dehydration) to babies.

I feel that "jane" acted inappropriately and unprofessionally, and should
have inquired as to what I actually said, either privately or with our
supervisor. I was shocked, extremely offended, and personally hurt by her
remarks, which I believe constitute slander."

Everyone, I feel it is so very important to try to be above reproach, always
professional with pts, coworkers, doctors. Knock on doors and wait to be
invited in. Use the pt's last name. Ask if you can examine them, etc. Ask to
clarify something with the doctor, or suggest something you would like to
try. Note: I am not perfect. We will not always win over every one with how
we want to treat jaundice or whatever, but if you are respectful to others,
then ALWAYS DEMAND PERSONAL RESPECT. I thank my dear husband for teaching me
this.
