Cathy says:

That's likely uric acid crystals from concentrated urine, and is a
completely normal finding in the first few days of life. Sad that the
pediatrician does not know this

In our last cram course we had a student nurse and asked her what she was
being taught in nursing school about these crystals as so many nurses seem to
think as this peds did -- that the baby is dehydrated and in need of
supplementation. Thankfully this young student nurse said that she had been taught
that it was a normal finding in the first few days and not to worry about it.
