I personally rent Ameda/Egnell pumps and love them, and sell the Purely
Yours. Moms in my practice who have both rented the hospital grade pump
and purchased the Purely Yours thought the Purely Yours was as effective
for them as the rental pump.
From my lactation consultant practice, I have deduced the following:
Purely Yours or Pump in Style are almost as good as the rental pumps for
use while seperated from a breastfeeding baby for work or school. They
are not quite enough for crisis situations - baby in NICU or otherwise
unable to breastfeed, low milk supply where the pump is being used to
increase supply, etc. Those are the times I strongly recommend the
metal piston rental pumps.
I chose to rent/sell the Ameda/Egnell pumps because I prefer the kits
to Medela's- they are a closed system and are easier to assemble and
clean. Both Medela and Ameda/Egnell pumps are effective and comfortable
to use, in my (experienced) opinion.
