Your right on. Start with small sips and then increase. Always stopping when baby shows that he has had enough. Sometimes this is done by simply pouring drops into the nipple and not attaching the bottle. Some parents will want to jump the gun and attach bottle to nipple with a couple of ounces and think  "I will just take the bottle out of his mouth after a sip or two" but they don't realize the amount that floods in there due to the negative pressure the baby makes.
