Fio,

I don't know about mammograms but in our area when a woman has a strong
history of breast cancer in her family, the doctors and midwives often suggest
having an ultrasound for a lactating woman. This inflicts little or no
compression of the breast tissue and is very comfortable compared to the mammogram.
If she does convince her HCP to order the ultrasound please have her notify
the tech doing the exam that she is lactating. It's actually quite humorous
when they don't know because most have never seen a functioning breast and it
can totally freak them out.

The ultrasound has a clear definitive result and is easily read if the
radiologist is notified ahead of time. A number of our over 35 year old Moms have
gone this route and so have I.

Peace,
Maggie Payne, LLLL
