Renee et al,

While I was an RN, IBCLC in the hospital I heard of two things that were a
bit "strange." The 1st one really wasn't that far out; the husband suckled
to bring in milk and to help with engorgement.

The other one made me laugh all day. Great-grandmother came to see her great
granddaughter while I was working with her. I always ask GM's if they BRF
(looking for family support.) This GGM proudly said, "Yep, I nursed all
nine of my babies and a baby goat! She went on to explain that she had
engorgement the baby was unable to relieve so her husband went to the barn
and brought back a baby goat. The nursling baby goat did indeed help with
engorgement and I would imagine her supply probably increased! :-)

Dear Friends,

An expectant mother called me tonight to ask if we ever use a puppy to bring
in the milk supply. Her mother was from Morocco and for each of her new
babies, (that were born there), a live, aggressive puppy was put to her
breast and her milk came in quickly. Well, OK I can see how this might work
but what about a live, aggressive baby that was not sedated from labour and
delivery - that might work too!

Any one heard of this practice? It was a first for me!!=20
