On the subject of mentoring, you wanted to know if others do some
mentoring. We have nursing students from Weber State University do some
clinical experience at our hospital. When they are at the Family Birth
Place some have requested to shadow the lactation person for a day. When
I have done it, it definately takes more time. However, I am always glad
to help a future nurse know more about helping women to breastfeed
successfully and what their role as a nurse is. How much actual hands on
experience they see depends on the patient count and how many of the new
moms are breastfeeding.
