I found this on "MammoEd, Digital Interactive Breast Imaging Education"
after a google search on 'lactating adenoma'. Warning: there was a large
number of porn sites listed as well.

"Statistically, the most likely diagnosis of a well-defined hypoechoic mass
with thin septations and a thin echogenic rim is a fibroadenoma. However,
with the history of a rapidly enlarging palpable mass during pregnancy, this
most likely represents (and was found to be) a lactating adenoma." and

"Lactating adenomas tend to be large well-defined lobulated masses with
fibrotic septae which can appear as echogenic bands within the mass. They
are benign, but are usually removed surgically because of their large size
and rapid growth."

My comments: she could wean on the affected breast, or (preferably) see
another surgeon with more experiecne w/ lactating breasts who could operate,
or (also a good idea IMO) have the current surgeon call around to find an
expereicned surgeon who could discuss w/ him the management of the pt
surgically and post op. Good luck to her. I hope she gets help/relief/keeps
nursing.
