Opening of a Lactation Center in Building 45

The NIH Worksite Health Promotion Program is pleased to announce
the opening of a new lactation center in Building 45. Lactation centers
are also available in Buildings 31 and 10. The centers provide a clean,
private place at work for breastfeeding women to collect breastmilk for
their infants. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends
breastmilk as the primary source of nutrition during the first year of life.

The Worksite Lactation Program provides services to help new mothers
get started with breastfeeding and continue to nurse when they return to
work. Services available through the program include prenatal education
classes, telephone support while on maternity leave, consultations
regarding return to work issues, use of the lactation rooms and state-of-
the-art breastpumping equipment. All services are free to employees.
Breastpumps may be rented at a reduced rate by mothers not located
near a lactation center or by male employees for their spouses.

During the program's pilot period we hope to identify where additional
lactation centers are needed . If you are expecting a baby or know
someone who is, contact the Worksite Lactation program coordinator
at 301 435-7850 to register. For more information, visit the Worksite
Health Promotion Website at http://odp.od.nih.gov/whpp/.
