Is it possible that this is her menstrual cycle returning? I had similar
experiences with both of my children - plentiful locchia which eventually
just became a period. Has she had any cessation or changes in the color or
volume of her bleeding?

With me, mine becomes more brown by the end of several weeks but still
rather heavy, followed by a heavy gush of fresh red and that gush returns
every 30 days without fail. I'm an ecological breastfeeder, nursing on
demand round the clock, have plenty of milk which tends toward oversupply,
my babies do not sleep longer than 2 hours for the first 18 months or so,
and yet my cycles returned at 6 weeks with my first and 4 weeks with my
second. Both of my children were delivered cesareans after trials of labor.
I do tend to not rest enough after birth, but I have not noticed that my
bleeding is affected much even when I do take it easy.

Just a possibility that this is normal for this mother.

Subject: heavy bleeding at 8 weeks postpartum? and ideas?

I have a doula client who is still bleeding fairly heavily and cramping at 8
weeks postpartum. She had a c-section. She is exclusively nursing and has a
very good milk supply. She is going for an ultrasound, but her doctors have
suggested that her hormones are just really out of whack and have
recommended she go on a combo-estrogen-progesterone pill. She is obviously
concerned about her milk supply. Any ideas about what's going on with her?
If she does take the pill to 'restart' her hormonal system and then goes off
of it, what are the chances her milk supply will get back to normal after
being on the pill? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas.

Warmly,
Julie, LLLL
