Dear Friends:
    Pam makes an excellent point about keeping things realistic for mothers
when breastfeeding isn't going well. This may mean bottle feeding, instead of
finger-feeding or tube-feeding at breast (none of which have evidence to
support their efficacy at getting baby to breastfeed.)
    Some mothers can get burned out with routines of pumping/finger
feeding/offering the breast. It can be helpful in the long run to keep feeding simple,
because she will have to pump anyway to make enough milk.
    Kittie Frantz also asked the question at a conference: "What is the
difference between a bottle teat and a gloved finger?" One of our professions
founding mothers, to be sure!
