Dear Folks:
This is in response to Pat Gima's queries about the lady who didn't gain any
weight in the last 3 months of pregnancy.
With my second baby, I gained no weight at all in the last 3 months. I am
5'7"; weighed 130 at the start, and got to 165 by 6 months....which was
interesting! Never gained an ounce after, blood pressure and iron levels were
fine. I did continue to walk several miles a day, and work out at the gym 2-3
times per week right up to the delivery. My midwife speculated that I was
active enough to keep the weight gain down. Clelia weighed nearly 9 pounds at
birth.
Weight gain patterns by themselves are very much like weight gain patterns in
infants: variable. One needs to look at blood pressure and general energy and
baby's growth more than the scales.
What is this lady's lochia like? What does she think is going on? Is there
co-sleeping, supportive network in place, a calm environment, a loving
partner? Can she afford food? Maybe continuing pumping, doing some creative
visualization, supplementing at the breast, and trying the fenugreek/blessed
thistle would be beneficial. Keep up the good work, Pat.
        Warmly, Nikki Lee
