Dear Kirsten,
Have you ever watched the video "Breastfeeding : the Baby's Choice" ? It shows a baby crawling to the breast (similar to Self Attachment) and it's entire progression from resting on her mother's abdomen to latching to the breast. It's a very good video as it gives detailed explanations of the various states the baby goes through in the first 80 minutes of life but it lasts only 9 minutes. It is produced in Sweden from the work of midwife Ann-Marie Widstrom. You can find it at the following Web sites : http://www.babyfriendly.org.uk/resourcefile/data62.asp
http://www.acegraphics.com.au/product/video/vt028.html

Here is also another good resource from the BFHI UK Web site : http://www.babyfriendly.org.uk/guid_del.asp

You will find fantastic pictures in Klaus & Klaus' book "Your Amazing Newborn". If your audience is small, you can pass the book around and have it for staff to borrow and read. Otherwise, you may want to contact the authors to see if they have electronic versions of these pictures.

Good luck with your talk.

Ghislaine Reid, BA, IBCLC, RLC
