My granddaughter Emily just received a breastfeeding doll (mom and
baby with sling) for her first birthday. She also received a breastfeeding
book with images of a baby nursing. It was from new friend who just had
her first baby, 6 months old and has become a breastfeeding advocate, and
I helped her in the beginning overcome some small attitude difficulties of
in-laws.
She and my daughter go to La Leche League meetings that I introduced
them to going. As an LLL "alumni", I am thoroughly enjoying my
reconnection to LLL directly. I believe the website for these items is
www.attachmentparenting.org as someone has posted. I have no financial
connection. I think they are great images for gifts and learned about the
website and items from this friend. It goes to show me good breastfeeding
info is out there that we don't always know about.
I brought the items to work to show off and was surprised some people
thought they were going to far. The majority of nurse colleagues thought
they were great. Not surprisingly, it was the nurses who had bottlefed
their own children that were put off. They are the ones that always have
the negative comments about breastfeeding, that even with policy, I find
try to get mom's to sleep at night, so they don't bother helping them with
breastfeeding. We still have so much negativity in place.
Thank goodness, my own daughter and this new friend are coming into
their own discovery of the wonderfulness of breastfeeding.
Thanks for letting me share this with all you wonderful people on
Lactnet. It is good to have a place to share positive and negative stories
about our work in promoting breastfeeding.
WArm regards from Greenwood Lake, NY (where it was a little springlike
today),
