Many women know why they "should" breastfeed. Most women aren't sure they
can. Alice's post of probably several months ago has really resonated with
me and my experiences as an instructor, LLLL, and IBCLC. I now harken back
to a mother's ability to make milk, the baby's innate ability to breastfeed,
etc., etc. throughout my classes. We have so many models based on
negatives, rather than a strength-based approach. Until women once again
are pregnant, give birth, breastfeed, parent, etc., etc. in a village,
receiving the support they so need, I will do my part in telling them how
confident I am that they can breastfeed their babies.
