I'm copying the list on my reply to Nikki regarding the US government
agencies' support of BF.

The CDC absolutely did NOT withdraw support for the Code. I was on the
review team for the Guide to Breastfeeding Interventions. That section of
the Guide to Breastfeeding Interventions included interventions that we all
THINK matter, but there's not enough published evidence to support a
recommendation. Listing the Code at all was quite remarkable and very
significant. The good folks at CDC have been pressing the US Breastfeeding
Committee members to press forward on addressing Code issues for years. In
fact, US govt documents dating back to 1990 call for a US marketing Code.
However, as you can guess, some of the member organizations are very touchy
whenever the word "Code" comes up - especially those organizations who have
not disengaged themselves from formula influence.

It is true that the Office on Women's Health was prohibited from issuing a
press release on the AHRQ study. That only means that the formula Industry
has a lot of influence higher up on the food chain, and can suppress and
stifle the good people and agencies who are just itching to move ahead
proactively. Remember the August 31 Washington Post articles?

The CDC is wearing a white hat on these issues.
