Hi again,
I'm an occasional subscriber, birth and breastfeeding educator and
post-partum doula in W. Massachusetts.

A mom asked me about some irregularities she's been having in her
cycle that the doctor has attributed to bf. Since her periods came
back at 6 months pp (exclusively bf), she's been having a
premenstrual discharge. It ranges from yucky brown to more like
regular flow and eventually transforms into the actual menstrual flow.
It has changed little over the last couple of years as the toddler has
weaned off to just night-time nursing. The doctor suggested birth
control pills to regulate the cycle, but of course not while breastfeeding
so she'd have to wean, blah, blah, blah. But she's blaming it on the
breastfeeding, so weaning would solve the problem, right?

Anyway, the question is, *is* this possibly a result of the lactation,
even as minimal as it is now, or is the doctor just blaming the possible
cause that she knows the least about?

TIA,
Beth
