Hello Wise Ones,
I have permission from this mother to post. My client is in the third
trimester of her 4th pergnancy. She is an experienced nursing mother, but
has not breastfed in about a year. She has experienced occaisional
plugged ducts in the past while nursing. She currently is experiencing
symptoms of a plugged duct. She is leaking a small amount of colostrum.
I told her to assess the fit of her bras, use tylenol for discomfort (ok
with her OB), use warm compresses and massage to break up the plug, and
watch for signs of infection. Any other suggestions? How common is this
problem? Her physician is aware of the problem, told her to call me.
Thanks in advance.
Laurie Joanow MSW, IBCLC
