Meth mom gets maximum sentence in landmark case

http://www.katu.com/stories/79276.html

SALEM, Ore. - In a case that is the first of its kind in Oregon, a mother is going to prison for passing meth to her baby through breastfeeding.

Prosecutors are calling this a hallmark case because it directly holds meth addicted mothers accountable for the harm they cause their children.

KATU News first reported on Jennie Thomas' case earlier this month when she pleaded guilty to a felony charge of breastfeeding her baby boy while high on meth.

The charge is called 'Forcible Ingestion of a Controlled Substance' and carries a maximum penalty of a year and a half in prison.
