This moening I was approached by our chief Obstetrician who had just
returned from a conference yesterday. He expressed concerns that one of the
speakers talked about the high levels og Dioxin in mother's breastmilk. He
said that it came from a french research study. After asking me whether
moms could possibly pump for awhile and get rid of this, I just suggested
to him that most likely formula has just as many or more dioxins especially
since water also has to be added and that formula also contained higher
levels of many othe toxins because after all cows eat contaminated, poluted
grass and of course our water supply needed for mixing isn't toxin free, he
stated that he hadn't thought of all that.

Just as we were discussing this another obstetrician came over asked if we
were talking about the Dioxin thing and I gave her the same answer. She
also hadn't thought about the formula thing. Are they really so unaware??
Or are we not educating them enough? It certainly was a positive
discussion. I'm sure other LC's in the Toronto, Hamilton area will get
calls from their patients because their OB may have mentioned this after
yesterday's conference. I hope not and I hope It doesn' hit the papers.
