I'm not sure if Louise Tellalian is on the list but she deserves a pat of
the back. She has an article on breastfeeding in the 1998 Lamaze Parents
magazine that is the first I've noticed that doesn't list the advantages of
breastfeeding but instead re-phrases it bluntly "artificially fed infants
are generally sicker and sick more often....Failure to breastfeed increases
risk for some immune system diseases in adulthood....Mothers who
artificially feed are at greater risk of excessive bleeding after birth
...families spend an additional $900 - $4700 in the first year to buy
commercially prepared infant milk...studies demonstrate that formula-fed
infants show poorer performance on measures of intellect, growth and
development....and on and on...." Maybe I just haven't noticed the others
but I appreciate the approach this article takes. These magazines are
distributed free of charge in childbirth classes. It is the only mass
produced free magazine for parents-to-be that does not contain formula
advertising. There are a couple ads for breastpumps and bottles but none
of the N......C......... baby club's I've found in all the other
magazine's. If someone wants info. on obtaining copies, e-mail me
privately.
