Karen, all I can tell you is this information is on the CDC website, affiliated with the National Immunization Survey. I've been trying to collect info for a paper, and the more I look, the worse it gets. I couldn't find a sample size for the numbers listed at this website, so I don't know if it is the same as to what Janet was referring.

It would make sense if the CDC and NIS were parts of the same, but the information doesn't match what Janet mentions.

Again, it would make sense for Ross to have inflated numbers, because they could continue to advertise and pretend that their advertising has no impact on breastfeeding.

To quote Monty Python, "My brain hurts!"

Best wishes,
Sam
(who got to ditch out-of-date formula samples at a local hospital today... broke my heart ;o))

We're going to Candy Mountain, Charlie!

Sam, now I'm confused -- not sure what you're referring to. The CDC BF data
is collected as part of the National Immunization Survey (NIS) data. BF
questions are included among the immunization questions. So, although the
data is published separately, it's collected together.

Randomized sampling is used for the NIS data collection vs. convenience
sampling for the Ross data. Can't remember what p values are listed for
either, but as I recall the NIS BF data includes it. Not sure if Ross does.
