In an earlier post Norma Ritter said she had attended a conference where
legal issues and breastfeeding were discussed. I am wondering if anything
was discussed relating to women who are nursing and are chosen for jury duty.
I am especially interested if the woman is nursing a toddler, are there any
laws to excuse her? I am sorry, this IS a personal issue, I have jury duty
this week. I was told by the jury manager that breastfeeding was not reason
enough for a deferral, especially since my child was not a "baby". I
normally would not have a problem with regular jury duty, however this is a
death penalty case and the jury will be sequestered (sp?) for aprox. 2 weeks.
Anna will be 2 next month and I have never spent even 1 night away from her.
I know that I could get off the hook by other reasons but I certainly feel
that being separated from my nursing child should be reason enough. Has
anyone else had any experience with this?
