In the case of the baby with frequent green frothy stools. This sounds like
something serious and probably not breastfeeding related. I agree that a
screen for Cystic Fibrosis is in order. Maybe some other things to think
about would be parasites? Other metaboloc disorders? Is the baby thriving?
I don't mean hanging on by a thread... actually thriving?

I am wondering if this is a case of "blame the breastfeeding" instead of
looking for a true etiology. Once the babe is on lactofree, and the
symptoms persist... what then?

Whenever a formula is recommended over mom's milk, a trial should be
suggested before breastfeeding is abandoned. By this I mean... keep mom
pumping until it is proven that baby actually does best on the alternate.
In my experience, formula usually won't solve a problem like this.... and
then, if mom has not pumped and the milk is dried up it's too late to turn
back so the kid goes from formula to formula.... very frustrating.

The gastroenterologists at our Children's Hospital have told me they are
tired of pediatricians taking babies off the breast only to refer them on
to "the specialist" who would have insisted that baby have nothing but
breast.
