Hey Lactnuts!, I'm a new subscriber. Currently a doula, WIC BF Counselor and
Breastfeeding Support Consultants student in addition to being a nursing
student. Any suggestions for a mom with one areola that is red, flaky, itchy
and seems dry? She has even developed a crack on the areola below the nipple.
Baby is 7 months, exclusively bf. Mom has had no problems like this before.
Baby has no thrush sx. Mom treated herself for with Monistat cream on the sore
nipple and saw no improvement. No change in detergents, soaps or shampoo. I
have not seen the nipple, only talked to mom on the phone. She has talked to
two LLL and they have been unable to figure this out. Mom is currently pumping
on the sore side because it's too painful to nurse. Mom reports that she is
using Lansinoh and that it has helped the dryness. Any suggestions, Experts?
TIA.
